Freedom to laugh, in the face of fear
when you'd rather do that than pray
Freedom to cry or to shed just a tear
as she leaves when you beg her to stay
Freedom to think, so that others won't hear
or to speak, when there's something to say
Freedom to drink when thirsty--
To live your life day-by-day...
And when hunger grows in your stomach--
Freedom to eat, until hunger goes far away
Freedom to choose what, when and where...
to walk, run, or breathe in its air
Freedom to love one another...
to greet your fellow man
as though he were truly your brother--
Now that's freedom, Not a command!
To treat humankind with kindness...
not with blindness but with freedom to see
the entire proverbial forest
from that of a single tree
Freedom to fly where the angels soar...
Or to look at the sky from a distant shore
Freedom to shout, when you discover a cure
Freedom to doubt, if you aren't quite sure
Freedom! ... Freedom! ...
God, what freedom! ...
Freedom to achieve or to simply try
Freedom to believe when you can't deny
Freedom to welcome or just say goodbye
Freedom to tell the whole world the truth--
And even freedom to lie
All this freedom-- yet so much more...
Freedom to live in total peace
or to lose your freedom in war...
Freedom to choose between these two
and uncover its very core--
to find freedom with God in His Heaven...
Freedom like never before--
Or freedom to turn your back on such freedom
with freedom to walk out that door
And that's what real freedom is...
For everyone... Young or mature
So simple-- And so easily given...
Because freedom
was never meant to be a chore
