Gates. Poem by Jona'e Levett

Gates.

tell me, why you think the world has lost its lucid lore.
and if the carbon building on your door was meant for more.
did the world not tell you it includes its ups and downs?
that not far behind your tosstled locks lies mountains you climbed down?
to look about and find you, atop its misty gates, the heavens would be proud
yet youve left to soon, and your tickets yet been made. and no one called your name among crowds beyond that gate.
i saw you as i passed those rows, the sad faces i had met.
i look beyond and see the saint, the bookie of my fate
he scribed the book that i have seen in many dreams before.
and as i walk and take the hand of those that i have loved. i look back once and shed a tear for the losses you have spun.
but never shall i have to see, the pain you'll have indured. for i have lived through mine on earth, before i met those gates.
