Gender Bias In It, God, Give Me A Son, Not A Daughter As The Son The Candle Of A Clan, Isn't It Patriarchal? Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

Gender Bias In It, God, Give Me A Son, Not A Daughter As The Son The Candle Of A Clan, Isn't It Patriarchal?

Why do they keep saying
The older men and women,
The menfolk and womenfolk
Praying as thus,
Blessing as thus
The would-be expecting mothers?

God, give her a son,
Not a daughter
As the son
The candle-light
Of the family, the clan
And to be the father of a daughter
Is to be lowly before
And the dowry too matters it?
