Geriatrics - A Sonnet Poem by Richard St. Clair

Geriatrics - A Sonnet

Aches and pains galore and getting worse,
To karmic retribution for what sins
Does this pertain? - I laugh just if it wins
Me a mortal heaven, cared for by a nurse.
I still am thankful for this brainy body
Providing me with meaning every day
While keeping rampant boredom here at bay
Lest my remaining life become too shoddy.
I care more than a whit for fellow people
Who live in desperate poverty and pain
Until they're in a humble grave a-lain,
Not even known in buildings with a steeple.
I do not ask folks to my life remember,
Just peace until my life's a dying ember.
