Girls Hostel

Amidst the fields far away from town

an Engg. institute J.M.I.T. is found

Thoughtful lay out-beautiful corridors

the weather can't attack-sun or storms

Gardens abloom-trees are friends

share the secrets of lovers there

Girls and boys-lots of variety roam

use their books less...........mobiles more

Girls hostel like a palace stands

Majestic overpowering Royal brand

High and Mighty like a wonderland

The warden uses her wand of care

and lo behold! problems are rare

Every year girls come and go

the warden deeply loves them they do not know

decorum and discipline prevents her to express

she would have so many children

she never ever guessed

The bank- the library-the bookshop busy

most of all the ca'fe with couples having fizzy

Hustle and bustle- love locked eyes

not aware of the meaning of life

Girls hate when its time to come in

then its turn for the cells to ring

The scenes then turn around for a change

carefree-casual-friendly exchange

changing clothes-sprawling on beds

watching tele-going to the mess

enjoying gym-reading books

beauty treatments-trying new looks

drowned in newspapers -looking for a job

using the net-lab-checking mails

shouting -screaming-running-calling names

out in the basket ball court having a game

leaving lights and fans on-they dont give a damn

fined for misuse-reluctantly girls understand

The shower rooms littered with sache'ts

which are very good reason for blockage

Announcement system loud and fruitful

install in the minds for girls to pay attention

The linen hung in order to dry on racks and baconies

obviously give an aura of feminity

Signatures for attendance begin late evening

most of the girls are half asleep and yawning

After dinner they are in full form

enjoy and celebrate B'days till dawn

During exams girls are stressed out

they have to pay the price of messing about

Basement-ground-first-second and third floor

do not interact with each other for sure

like strangers from different lands

moving around making demands

grumble at dishes the mess contractor makes

and run for the canteen no matter what it takes

Girls dread going home the hostel they love

at home their freedom is directly done

Ambulance arriving any odd hour-girl sick!

friends assuring -assisting -ever so quick

screaming for ma'am-panicky-dramatic

within half an hour shes in safe hands

the warden is showered with tons of thanks

Towards the end girls have three days fest!

You'll not believe-its good-better-best! !

Poem of the Day

poet Katharine Lee Bates

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
