The sky is grey and looming,
The rain is falling down.
She’s looking through her window,
In her soft, green dressing gown.
For the winter in is drawing,
And the nights are getting dim.
The outlook’s often looking bleak,
In a social state that’s grim.
For the Christmas cash has run dry,
And all her pennies she has spent.
Her family are all memories,
So no greetings cards are sent.
She’s all alone this yuletide,
In her small room, in her home.
And sat out in the garden,
Is a lonely garden gnome.
No scene of the nativity,
For her on which to gaze.
Just an empty life of solitude,
No friends to fill her days.
For the daytime’s cold and lonely,
The night-time’s even worse.
And she wonders what she did wrong,
For her life to be so cursed.
So while her life she ponders,
As she looks on through the glass.
Why she is so all alone,
And how the years have passed.
The rain continues falling,
In the bleak grey, sombre sky.
And no answers is she finding,
To her eternal question why.

This is very lonesome sounding. Scenes like this one make my heart ache. Glad you wrote this; it's a good reminder that the lives of others may not be so rosy as we imagine.
