Glow In The Dark Poem by Mehreen Mujeeb

Glow In The Dark

Tangled cobwebs of wires
Through which
My impulses beat in electric blood
From mobile plugs.
If only I could watch
The sparks in me
I could then see what is
And not only what could be
In strained spurts of photonic lightning.

Perhaps the fuses of my mind
Don't insinuate a shutdown
But a struggle to link the narrow ducts
To create a circuit
Lighting a bulb in my eyes
So I can see the sun
And everything it cannot.

There aren't any eyes to watch myself inside
To see what mirrors cannot see
Mirrors are too reflective
Not enough refractive
One cannot always see what they feel
But does that mean that I'm not real?
