Goldenyears Poem by Grace Burke

Goldenyears

I sit and watch the sun set as the day turns into night
As golden rays of sunshine lose their brilliant light
Will this be how my life is, the fading of the years
The losing of togetherness, the shedding of my tears.

My life once full of happiness, fulfilling and complete
Now is filled with emptiness, total dark defeat
Is this what lies before me, this loneliness and fears
Is this what lies before me in my golden years.

I see the vast night sky with it's shining stars up high
I wonder why I can't be there, why I can't just die
To be set free from loneliness, from loss and all the pain
To float up in the heavens and fall as gentle rain.

Why this sense of loneliness, why this sense of loss
I feel as if my emotions are on the rough seas tossed
Will tomorrow bring some answers, is happiness in sight
Will love come to me gently, as the day turns into night.
