Goodbye Poem by Edwina Reizer

It took us a long time to part
and longer to say goodbye.
For the so few hours we ever had,
so quickly did they fly.

Separation was inevitable.
We knew it from the start
and yet we placed it in the back of our minds
and only knew the heart.

And the heart said, 'Not yet, not yet.'
as we listened to its beat.
As we touched one final time
the touch was just as sweet
as ever it had been.

We turned. We looked and slowly
wiped away our tears.
We walked into the empty future
of all the coming years.
