Goodbyes... Poem by Sandeep Mandal

Goodbyes...

Goodbyes o fair maid goodbyes
For tonight and all the nights ever to come
Never to whisper to your ears
Or ever to ease off the scars.
The ever dying jingle must not be revived
The jhumkas must not be no more stirred
Let them chime only to rouse
Withered by winter the wedding vows.
I don't ever wish to be your man
I would that I were those nights
That settle down on your eye brows
Potion of soul soothing dews
That for only the loved ones the angel brews.
I don't ever wish to be your man
I wish I could tie the moon midsky
To tear off bits of dream from her
To put them in your resting eyes
Dream that you cherish to realize.
I don't ever wish to be your man
I just want to be the morning breeze
That blows about you during summer's lease
Lifting your spirit up with a fresh start
Driving away all that pierces your heart.
Nay, don't get me wrong
I'm not flirting with you nor am I flattering
I too know not how to define this obsession
Like once you said in your candid confession
Confused you were whether I truly loved you
Or just coincidences leading to a crimson hue
Why then such endless supply of burning passion
When there's nothing left except compassion
If you please you may play down this verse as self pity
But still I find in you in all flesh and blood a living deity.
