Old School Poem by Sandeep Mandal

Old School

Rating: 5.0

On such days like this
When dark clouds choke the morning sky
Persisting mourning of the doves
Hovering over the rain soaked air
Soft, soothing, magical and mystical
Silences all the early rush and hurry
As I meditate over the pensive note
Once again I find the morning sunny.
I can't but listen to them more and more
All around me subdues to passivity
While all beyond comes to the fore.
How things were all up and going
The morning, afternoon and evening
Were all vibrant vivaciously flowing.
How a gang of spirited boys and girls
Gathered together as morning pearls
Caring little to whether to be rebuked
Though stricter mothers nearby stood.
O! how much of joy it was merely to run
Revving like bikes negotiating every turn
Playing then meant going out in the open
Running and running along the dusty lane
Across the grassy ground when it rained
Rained like hell firing an instinct untamed
Sudden brakes rendering effortless glide
The muddy ground served as a rustic slide.
Flipping from the high bank front and back
Happiest kids like the one in the wolves pack.
Then the sound of rain lashing on the pool
Heard from just beneath the thin surface
All wrapped in the blanket of dusky water
While the cool rain punched from above
The joy could be felt only by the old school
Only to be relished at times by flouting rule.
Now as the mourning gets fainter and fainter
With the blazing light dispersing the haze
All the day's grinding task takes centre stage
Off again to a tedious cycle of duty
The days roll on as they lose their beauty
I wonder what's it unique about the memory
That they always tell such riveting story?
Memories but all bygone moments stored
The unpleasant barred only the fond adored.
