Gowan Poem by Penni Currie

Gowan

Rating: 5.0

Wee white daisy
wi' yellow e'e
growing sae innocent
for a' tae see
reaching up to sunny sky
close up at dusk
your sweet wee eye
a careless kick
you're ripped apart
it makes me sad
it breaks my heart.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Written in my Ayrshire dialect a gowan is the Scottish word for a daisy. This was inspired after watching some children in a field deliberately kicking and stamping up a patch of daisies until they lay scattered all around.
