Granny's Word Poem by Ray Tatenda Mutizwa

Granny's Word

a good follower ofthem that lead be
that in turn you may lead good others
bellowed the old lady every time I met her
always beckoning me to follow to lead
a good leader must first know how to follow said she
in my heart she deposited this treasure for success
like them who get in proactively be
those who are of less speech
be different from them
who idly instruct but does contrast their speech
honour your word and your word will honour you
then I could not hear her
full of folly I went astray from the wise counsel
then after being beaten down and bruised by life
refreshing and life giving her words got me up again
thank you for taking time to give me life
you were right ma'am
words are life this know I now
