Grief Poem by Nhi Bui

Grief

It pulls at the corners of your smile
It makes your laughter out of tune
It makes your face so white and wan
And ghostly like the moon
It sits upon your shoulders
And curves into your spine
It dulls and clouds your eyes
Like a mirror without shine
It hides inside the silence
Between your breaths and sighs
It darkens the lightest of your days
And deepens the blackest night
It is a wound that can't be seen
That bleeds with every memory
Of what was you had and loved
But remember this. Eventually,
It too, will pass away with time
And your days will be no longer grey
But beautiful and fine
