Guardrails Removed Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Guardrails Removed

The guardrails have been removed,
From a runaway train.
Given consent to continue,
Upon a journey of destruction.
Permitted by a dysfunction.
At the junction of corruption.
Allowing thieves aboard,
To speed towards...
A controlling of a way of life.
Splintering minds,
Of those who can least afford...
The expense of losing their consciousness.
Yet expecting the experience of it,
Will benefit them with profits to bring.
As truth deceived to distort,
Ultimately ends an experiment that began...
By one skilled at fraud to applaud it!

"Uh...
Isn't that a curve ahead?
Shouldn't we apply the breaks?
While we can to escape the fate that comes! "

-What curve?
What brakes?
This train is as stable as I am.-

"Forget about that.
I'm more concerned about the 'tracks',
Supporting the train.
How can we go on...
When the tracks are gone? "

-Good question.
Tracks are like facts.
When they are no longer useful to us,
I'll make something else up.
No one will notice.
Trust me.-

"Soon we will need,
Something much more concrete to envision.
Like...uh...reality. Maybe? "
