Gunpowder Gertie Poem by David Darbyshire

Gunpowder Gertie

Rating: 5.0

With the wind
free as a breeze
We are confined
to the open seas

with Gunpowder Gertie
under the deep blue sky's
we wonder the oceans
the depths we defy

we round the cape
we sail dead straight
to lunge against other ships
no one sings all tight lips

we get to grips
then we shoot
board the ship
take the loot

we would follow our Lady
off the end of the plank
we would even dive in
if the ship sank

Gunpowder Gertie
is our captain
she was a little dirty
but not insane
