Hammer And Nails Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Hammer And Nails

The ones who perform,
Their misdeeds openly.
Don't do this to learn.
They do this to teach.

Those cunning and conniving,
And given positions of authority.
Discovered to be incompetent.
With an expertise to deceive.
Have not done this to learn.
To know how well they can teach.

No one depicted by others to be a fool,
Rises to prominence.
To be anyone's tool to be used.
If that was the case,
They would have swiftly been replaced.
With another sought less devious.
And less problematic to be taught.

Those late getting the message.
And forced to observe this,
Feeling embarrassed with guilt.
Are the ones who handed over,
The hammer and all their nails.
Whether or not they approve,
Of that which has been built.
Or the results of their wants to wish,
With conscious permission...
They allowed every bit of it.
And...
Assisted!

The ones who perform,
Their misdeeds openly.
Don't do this to learn.
They do this to teach.
And anyone given a hammer and nails,
Destroying whatever it is in sight.
Done to prevail.
Countless days and horrifying nights.
Does not do this to learn.
They do this to teach lessons.
Never to forget.
By anyone to seek them sought,
Taught again.
