Happy Birthday - Poem by Lauren B Called

A woman clutches a box as she leaves the restaurant
and a drink in her other hand
her shift is over
small compensation for the time she put in
like a revolving door
over and over until we die
I remember that once was me
before I found this new life

here you are another year
and I never said a thing
though it crossed my mind several times
the words remained hidden
many things I thought to give
worthy on their own
became worthless when compared to you
and the things you've done

not for others but for me
didn't get this far alone
what do I give someone
who has made me one of his own
how do I say thank you
for not judging by only what is seen
and never, not even once
giving up on me
