Happy Birthday Lucas Poem by Robert Edgar Burns

Happy Birthday Lucas

This whole past year has gone by quick,
Say goodbye to five and hello to six.
The inches penciled off upon our wall
Are proof enough you are getting tall.

You are now in school in Kindergarten,
Having taught us superglue quickly hardens.
You took a field trip on a yellow bus,
And you rode a camel and named him Gus!

Buzz Lightyear is your name at times,
Unless it’s Mario, and playing Wii is fine!
I like connect four and playing cars,
Or pretending I’m an alien who came from Mars.

Your grandma sure is proud of you,
But here’s a secret, so am I too!
We will have a party to celebrate,
But you’ll have to wait till you turn eight!

O.K. Lucas, you know I’m teasing,
Because my lips are moving and I’m not sneezing.
Happy Birthday to our growing big boy,
May your year be happy and only filled with joy!

I am writing this stanza just to make it six,
Because with five you can have some kicks,
But like you did this whole long year,
You waited till one more was here!
