Hardware Disease Poem by Ima Ryma

Hardware Disease

When a cow does swallow a nail,
As oft a cow is apt to do,
If stomach pierced the cow will ail,
Called hardware disease, yes tiz true!
An ounce of prevention is worth
A pound of cure, the saying goes.
Within a year from the cow's birth,
In a mouthful of hay enclose
A cow magnet to swallow, so
From then on metal nails and such
Onto the magnet will thus go,
And not bother the cow too much.

The magnet stays and does not pass,
Safely letting the iron amass.
