Have We Come To This Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Have We Come To This

Have we become so entitled.
And sickened with privilege.
That a protecting our health,
By wearing a mask.
Is believed to be unpatriotic.
In the midst of a pandemic.
Spreading fast,
A death threatening virus.
With the evidence of it,
Approaching doorsteps.
Leaving few to pass.

Have we come to this?
Defiant and protesting against,
The warning signs of kept ignorance.
To then accuse and blame,
Acclaimed scientists around the World.
That their expertise to reveal and release,
Has diminished a quality of life...
Too enjoyed many refuse,
To acknowledge death is the threat.
And their lives to live,
Demanding back a 'normalcy'...
Has left them deluded to believe,
The presence of truth...
Is nothing more,
Than an over produced fantasy.

Have we come to this?
Ignorance.
Yet accept not to reject,
Deception.
And its reception in our lives.
To expect humanity will continue to survive.
Until it's too late to realize,
Fools are made and not born that way!

Have we come to this?
Maintaining to sustain,
Such incredible and stubborn...
Death defying and threatening ignorance.
To feel this as an entitlement? !
