He Exchanged His Nails For Mine Poem by Oyekake Satty (O S) Joshua

He Exchanged His Nails For Mine

And mounted on a mahogany pedestal
Carved from a creamy-smooth marble
That frozen stone statue looking at me
And head bowed and arms outstretched
And a robe half-covering reveal his side
And scars; other scars left by cruel nails
And my heart now centered in his orbit
Immersed in his thought of me, not mine
I thought no longer of my nails, only his
‘Tis a marble statue, yet the words rang
A gentle whisper, bidding, prodding me
'Come unto me and I will give you rest'
About me, peace settling, comforts me
Over me, calm reassurance soothes me
He loved me enough to die in my place
He'd love me enough to see me through
Losing my fingernails no longer mattered
For he had exchanged his nails for mine
He is the God who understands my hurts
And lifts and fills me with hope each day
