Heaven Or Hell Poem by Gregory Krabbe

Heaven Or Hell

St. Peter was manning the Heavenly gates, Saint Paul was catching the phones, There weren’t any faxes, no one was on hold, and Matthew served coffee and scones.

A young man approached, said, “Sir, where am I, ? I just left a fraternity party”, “I was headed for home to swipe money from Mom, and another 1/5th of Bacardi, ”

St. Peter said, “Son, you may want to sit down, there’s been a slight change in your plans…” The kid looked around saw Paul and said, “Sir, I don’t think that this guy understands, ”

Paul said, “Take a seat, cause you’re headed for heat, we’ll be with you in less than a minute”. St. Peter said, “This is the Lord’s book of life and you must know that your name isn’t in it.”

“You mean that I’m dead, the astonished boy said, and that stuff about heaven is true, ”
'as true as can be, and as you will soon see, It’s too late for the people like you.”

“But wait! ” the boy said, now aware he was dead, “I’ve spent the last six years in college”,
“That’s interesting stuff”, Said Paul sounding gruff, “but faith isn’t based on your knowledge”,

“But I’m sorry”, he cried, “I would not have denied Him, But with all of this bad information…” I cannot believe anyone would deceive all of us who still needed salvation, “

“I’ve been a good student, my judgment was prudent, I’ve never talked back to my Mom, I gave to the poor helped the lady next door and I didn’t get drunk at the prom, “

“I was very alive, and I’m just twenty five, not a person you’d want to destroy, ”
“St. Peter looked down, with a sobering frown, said, “I’m not getting through to this boy, ”

“See, it wasn’t about you, I really don’t doubt you, but this isn’t about your behavior, The only command was that you take a stand, and declare your belief in the Savior”,

“It’s smiles and deeds, that so often misleads, all the hearts that eventually harden, just making excuses, won’t work when the truth is, It’s too late to ask for a pardon! ”
