Hero's In The Foam Poem by Colin Coplin

Hero's In The Foam

Rating: 4.0

Baby’s got some words on her lips
Me, I got lips that only need to be kissed
She says you don’t treat me write
How can I reason with a mind like that

And I’m burning, I’m burning in my heart
Got all this love but she don’t want to start
She knows a part of me dies, with each rejection, with each denial
And she knows there’s some prisons a butterfly with broken wings can’t escape from
But there’s time, always time
So you wait, and you watch and you wait

In the ancient currents of history
Drowning men attempt to set themselves free
But baby just smiles as she turns the page
Another spine is broken, discarded and displayed

She’s read every riches to rag
Cover to cover, both good and bad
Lived every love, man could possibly have
The closets are full, in the basement their fingers claw for some sun
But none comes
If you deny the future it’s chance
Baby, hey its you whose damned
But she understands, yeah she put them there

And I’m burning, I’m burning in my heart
Got all this love but she don’t want to start
She knows a part of me dies, with each rejection, with each denial
And she knows there’s some prisons a butterfly with broken wings can’t escape from
But there’s time, always time
So you sit and you watch and you wait

In the attics of longevity
Writers scratch out for some immortality
Their ghostly pencils fought, but they fought alone
As darkness rolls them over…in the foam

The still waters just rise
Every hero has his last wave goodbye
At night they sway and wander
Bob and go under
Their blue drowned lips
No longer have a need to be kissed

And I’m burning, I’m burning in my heart
Got all this love but she don’t want to start
She knows a part of me dies, with each rejection, with each denial
And she knows there’s some prisons a butterfly with broken wings can’t escape from
But there’s time, always time
Still you try and you try and you try
