Higher Lower Standard Poem by Ima Ryma

The U.S.A., red, white and blue,
Symbol of the United States,
The flag, flown at half staff for who?
Americans have many a greats.
But if the flag is lowered for
The loss of anyone of fame,
The flag would fly forevermore
At half staff. That would be a shame.
Patriotic service should be
Why the flag at half staff is flown,
For great sacrifice, selflessly,
By some who never were well known.

The lowered flag should symbolize
The true giving hero who dies.
