Him Again Poem by Raj Arumugam

Him Again

Rating: 5.0

Have you heard from him?
someone asks, as they sit round the table.
They shake their heads and one of them
says softly,
No...
You were quite close to him,
some other throws in an accusation.
Too busy to write; probably the same with him.

Cheerful fellow, wasn't he?
the other continues.
He would be here at the canteen and he would always
offer me some before he took his drink. Always had a smile
and a kind word or two.
I wonder what's become of him...
He must be fine,
somebody attempts to say.

Probably found a new life;
he's forgotten us, busy in his new place...

What a quizzical title and what a common day discussion, around a table..whatever happened to so-and-so; nobody knows, but then they discuss what they remember, for better or worse..and sometimes the topic remains open ended, without any sort of solution perhaps out of a sense of kindness or else the impossibility of ever finding anything out about someone who's now sort of past history in the mind of the group. Love how you've captured all those feelings in this brief flash of writing.
