Homesick Poem by shannon wright

Homesick

Rating: 5.0

when we meet for the first time
eye to eye
mouths hungry to breathe the same air
will everything change in an instant
or will my racing heart be the only sign
that something significant has occurred?

when we kiss for the first time
will the angels sing
and the skies part
will the devil cry
and the earth shake
or will it be achingly simple and
utter bliss

when we touch for the first time
fingertip to fingertip
will we feel an electric current
that jolts us from the inside out
or will we feel like we’ve been called home
to each other
and realize all these years we thought we were lonely
we were really just homesick.
