Hometown Poem by Natasha Dowdy

Hometown

Where roots are aspirations
planted
Deep
Into the ground

The local fare
Isn't tourist flair

And another kid dreams
Of total escape
Falls in love
Accepts this new fate

Self-imposed prison bars
Minivans and coupe cars
Nine to five
Daily grind
Illusions of grandeur
Is the dream surrender.
