How Can I Celebrate Alone Poem by DOMINIC PREMPEH

How Can I Celebrate Alone

Sitting quietly in my simple room
And per the whole day tasting no drink or food
And not making merry not because I am not in the mood
All, for a reason
To remind myself, there are other people at that other side
Who are indifferent to today

These other people at the other side
Have not eaten today though it is a day of plentiness
Have not worn anything new though it is a day of newness
Have been the same though it is a day of freshness
And are never happy though it is a day of merry making
Theirs is isolation: from fun, food, freshness and enjoying

I always feel for the other people
Their tears soak this earth, and pollute the soil
Their fears shake this earth, and causes pain
Their hunger silences this earth, and makes us lonely
Their pain pinches this earth, and makes it sad
And their death, … Hmm, will empty our earth

Let us dine and wine with someone, those of us who have
Not with those who can afford, but the ones we see across
Who without us are flashy, flowery living creatures!
Let us make hearty the lives of others
Not our friends, but those we see sorrowful and homeless
And those, without us, can easily perish
