How I Read A Poem

Rating: 4.5

Everytime I read a poem
I read it lots of times
As much as it would take for me
To see it very clearly

I read it in a voice not mine
But by the poem's own
Sometimes the wind or of victory
Sometimes of death and the sea

I watch how it flows by and by
And feel how it would be
With blood on ground or birds in sky
Or a peaceful room with lots on mind

To learn to fly or dive so deep
To feel the heart's desire
To sit in a chair, a teacher in front
To learn from another's life

And to my disappointment, the adventure ends
And its time to say what to say
I smile everytime I start to speak
As I realize the journey was real

Danzen, you have very eloquently expressed in verse- that a poem needs to be read several times, as there are layers of meaning- to sit in a chair and learn from someone's life.last four lines say it all.10 Mamta
