How Will I Die? Poem by Sheena Blackhall

How Will I Die?

Will I die in my own bed?
Will I die with my cat by my side?
Will I die on a stricken cruise ship
Turtling into the tide?

Will I die in a hospital ward
Hitched up to drips?
Will I die in my sleep
While the moon through the darkness slips?

Will I die in a car crash
Skidding along black ice?
Will I die by a heart attack
My chest like a mouse in a vice?

Death holds no terrors
Most folk I know have crossed
It's dying I fear
If pain is departure's cost
