Hugging School Poem by Lonnie Hicks

Hugging School

Rating: 2.7

Every one loves-
I am convinced of that,
it is just that
some do it so badly.

Perhaps we should have a Love School
so these sorts can practice up
on their hugging.

I know it sounds strange
but we have some of you
that can't
or won't do it
and when you do,
you do it badly.

Oh, you don't notice
but kids do.

A half-hearted hug-
body awry,
commits only a shoulder to it
is a hug gone bad
and a hug wasted.

The hug where contact is only at the cheek
is a hug that doesn't really exist.

So my point:
There's plenty of reluctant huggers out there
who don't know how bad they are
until
until
someone
just for fun
lays a real hug
on them.

Whoa!
They stand back,
recoil with awe
but give them a moment to think
you'll see
they'll see
'that was kinda nice
after all'

So go ahead
commit Huggery
you might get yourself and others
used to it in time.

If not
at least
you had fun.
.
Reach out.
lay one on me
sometime.
