Humbled Poem by Obed dela Cruz

Humbled

Knowing proudly of what I had become
And counting the things that I now possess,
I always expect a hero’s welcome
To satisfy vainly my boastfulness.

With my strength I won a thousand battles
Because I thought I am the best warrior.
But lo, like thousands of thirsty camels
I was dried up and was not man of war.

I thought my knees are both hard as stone
But lately, it bended like the waters
For I discovered that I'm flesh and bone
And not a god over all earth’s rulers.

Through this experience I was made wiser
To save me while I can still be rescued
So that one day I can be far greater
And that I’ll not just be like useless wood.

Humility is needed in this life
Because wrong pride is an unfaithful wife.
