I Am Leaving Grief Behind For A Time Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Am Leaving Grief Behind For A Time

I am leaving grief behind for a time
I am forgetting about sorrow and pain
Old age is not in my mind
‘Inevitable decline' is something I am forgetting about-

I am happy to be alive
I am simply happy breathing
There is pleasure everywhere in so many ways
I can eat what I want
I can drink what I want
I can listen to any music I want
If I feel like a long slow pleasant walk
I can take it
I can read the best book the greatest book again
I have so many sources of entertainment
There are friends near
And family I can love to be with
It is all good
So good
I am trying to be happy again
While underneath it all
The river of gloom flows slowly and continually on.
