I Can See The Sea Poem by Thomas Rourke

I Can See The Sea

Rating: 5.0

I can see the sea
The crashing waves
The spraying sea spray
And the beautiful fishes
All amazing sea creatures

But then I see countless fishes
That get served on dishes
In restaurants and cafes
Setting grills ablaze.

I can see the sea
The coral reefs
And bits of slimy seaweed
Then the monsters of the deep -
Some are stirring in their sleep

But then I see the submarines
Filled with giant drilling machines
Going deeper into the ocean
Searching for the monsters,
But for the monsters - in slow motion.

So now you know that I can see the sea,
You should do it for them, and do it for me.
But you may ask: What difference will it make?
What will happen if a little difference is made?
A little is a little
And a lot is a lot
The ocean came to this world far, far before us
So, I answer: Why not?

The sea is something politicians can't see, touch or smell from their parliaments. Plastic is a problem as is acidification too, but all we get is blah, blah, blah. Good poem.
