I Cannot Poem by Rebecca Springsteen

I Cannot

I do not weep for people,
I cannot be in their shoes,
I cannot make it go away,
I cannot hold you up,
I cannot do anything of importance,
I cannot build a safe haven,
I cannot block out the cold,
I cannot block out the light,
I cannot block out the heat,
I cannot block out the dark,
I cannot block out the monsters,
I cannot block out the nightmares,
I am sorry.

Excellent presentation of modern man's passivity and submission. This is reminiscent of Eliot's Do I dare disturb the Universe
