I Come Back To The Poems

I COME BACK TO THE POEMS

I come back to the poems
And I restore my soul-
Without the poems
I do not know who I am-
Without the poems
I somehow cease to exist-

I come back to the poems
And I restore my soul
And I momentarily forget
All the questions and doubts
That made me lose the poems-

The poems are back
I am back
Life has hope again
And all the meaninglessness
And all the criticism
Are for a time at rest
I come back to the poems
And here I am- alive again

Poem of the Day

poet Henry Lawson

The old year went, and the new returned, in the withering weeks of drought,
The cheque was spent that the shearer earned,
and the sheds were all cut out;
