I Could Not Be Here Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

I Could Not Be Here

I could not be here.
To do what it is,
Without you near.
Tolerating with patience.
My ups and downs.
Or those blue moods.
And changing attitudes.

I could or would not,
Be able to face...
Negativity and obstacles,
I'd sometimes faked,
A bravery to face.

And if it had not been for you,
I would have long abandoned my faith.
When finding myself alone.
In unfamiliar places.
On my own to roam far from home.

I could not be here.
To know the peace of mind and happiness,
Found to call them mine to have earned.
If you had not,
Got me up off my knees.
As I stubbornly sought,
From you sympathy.
While I sat to do less,
Of nothing but the best of that to choose.
All the time.
To prove I could complain, moan and whine.
But...
That from me you did not approve.
And I knew,
To let you down...
Would have been the biggest mistake,
Made...
You would never let me forget.
After all,
You are the Boss.
And I continue to be your work in progress.
I am not the giver of blessings.
From you they come.
To me to receive and get.
