I crossed a fine line
Now I can never return
All that was ever innocent
All that was resplendent
Bled out at the raging onset
Just like a sun beginning to set
I crossed an unseen line
Now I can never return
Where there was a smile
Hangs a fragile frame of bile
Where there was budding mirth
Reigns a friend's unforgiving wrath
I crossed a thin line
Now I can never return
I cannot peer at what's left
For fear of a sight amity bereft
I cannot stand to look back
For fear of a reality too stark
I crossed a redden line
Now I can never return
I can never return a glance
And face not a shred of grace
A mountain of ash set to the wind
Myriad alien crevices to find
I crossed a divine line
Now I can never return
The stream will not reach the sea
The leaf will no longer know a tree
A melody will no more be sung
Nor a promise from a tongue stung
