I do, I remember,
That chilly day
In December;
The day you were born,
Soak and wet,
I'll never forget
When we first met;
I do, I remember,
The sky, vivid
Gold and navy,
How precious, how tiny
A sweet little baby,
With fingers to hold,
And squeeze so tight,
A mother's instinct,
To share in childlike delight;
I do, I remember,
A spinnin' in my tummy,
Cravin' pickles and ice cream;
Oh, so yummy!
I do, I remember,
A child reachin' in my arms
And keepin' safe
From all the world's harms;
Liftin' up in the air,
For all to see my love and care;
I do, I remember,
Like a calm sea breeze,
The first tiny hiccup and
drawn out sneeze,
A tiny tap
On the back
And a good burpin'
After a tasty snack;
I do, I remember
All of the crawlin'
And the jumpin'
And the fallin'
Mornings, some were good,
And some were sour;
Evenings, cryin' over nothin'
For more than an hour.
I do, I remember, son,
My life was empty and plain,
But with your love now,
I have so much to learn and gain;
With every little emotion,
With all the love
And all the devotion;
You may not remember,
You may not yet see,
All the wonderful things,
You truly are to me;
You may not yet know,
Until you age some and grow;
But let me tell you,
This will always be true,
I will never love anyone
As much as I love you.
