I Don'T Know If I Heard The Thing Itself Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Don'T Know If I Heard The Thing Itself

I don't know if I heard the thing itself,
Or perhaps the idea of the thing-
I do know
It ceased to be,
as all things cease to be-
Even the wind will die one day,
And our Earth have no one to sing songs of lament for it.
