I Don't Understand Poem by David Thomas

a long time ago
someone told me that
in time, i'd understand it all
i hate being lied to

i don't understand
how you could just leave,
dump your memories forgotten
and walk away for good
and walk away for good

if life is so darn bad
why can't you just take a step back
like a normal person,
and take on the new day strong
why do you have to run?
why do you have to run?
it's like a circle with a crumbling edge

someone told me long ago
that when i grew i'd understand
here i am the brunt of lost,
why couldn't you stay
just once why couldn't you
just one time why couldn't you
why can't you just stay with me (forever) ?

you're the sunlight and the air
the notion that someone Great is always
why can't you stand still
just this one time my friend
hold your fists tight
and fight fight fight
life doesn't quit so you can't either
life doesn't sit so you can't either
you know i have your back
you know you have my soul
so fight with me together,
let's end this childish game
forever once and forever,
forever, once and forever,
let's end it on the right foot
i love you (forever)
