I Drink Nights As Sleeping Potions Poem by Natalia Bakina

I Drink Nights As Sleeping Potions

I drink nights as sleeping potions,
Mix them in a dreamless chase.
Time enframes my slow motion,
Drawing and erasing days -
They stream back into the ocean,
Stir no layer, leave no trace.

I blot spills of the misspoken,
Whip my hours into gale.
I search mornings for a token,
Strain my ears for a hail
Carrying sorcery of the woken
Mists of fortune, looming pale.

The pencil of my expectation
Signs your name across my breast.
Autumn fires anticipation,
Lays my summer hopes to rest.
Love retouches life rotation,
Highlight cycles at their best.

Laughter stiffens in odd patches.
Breeze-songs wipe my tears dry.
Tattered glimpses link the stretches
Of our dates as weeks go by.
Burning bridges – flaming snatches -
Cloud the future, light the sky.
