I Fear Not The Wrath Of An Angry God Poem by Patrick O'Reilly

I Fear Not The Wrath Of An Angry God

I fear not the wrath of an angry God
I fear His merciful paradise,
His secure heaven’s doldrums.
Let me be robbed blind in the streets
Let me lose to a cheating hand
Let me rummage furiously through the kitchen cupboards on Sunday morning, searching in vain for a hangover's cure
Let me smell the fading traces of a lover’s perfume when she’s left my bed forever
Let me die in fire or in ice
Let me suffer all indignities, all trials, all sorrows
But let me be preoccupied
