I Had A Cat Poem by Randy McClave

I Had A Cat

I had a tubby cat
It always acted lazy and was fat,
It wouldn't chase a mouse or a rat
And it wouldn't even chase a gnat.
It always slept in my bed
And it always wanted to be fed,
It never listened to what I said
And my socks it would always shred.
It would always cry for food to eat
And it would always cry for another treat,
And it would always attack my feet
Never from excitement did she greet.
When she went to her decorated litter tray
I had to clean out the mess everyday,
With disinfectant I would constantly spray
A thank you meow she never purred or did say.
When she is sick I will take her to the vet
But, when I am sick she gives no sadness or regret,
I'm the first one she'll always forget
Sometimes I feel that I am her pet.
She stares at me as if she is the Queen
Maybe that's why she acts so haughty and mean,
And why I am the one who always has to clean
As she always makes a Royal scene.
I always bought her the newest toys
Some were silent and some squeaked with a funny noise,
Wanting to bring her joy
But, they never changed her poise.
Now no longer do I have to give her a pat
No longer from my clothes must I say scat,
And no longer will I feel like a doormat
Because, once I had a cat.
