I Know What You Did For Me Poem by Diana van den Berg

I Know What You Did For Me

You knew my bones
and the flow
of their marrow.

You knew the composition
of the cells
of my blood capillaries
and my branchioli.

You joined with eagle wings
my butterfly thought-dances.

My will-o-the-wisp whispers
were as clear as a polished bell to you.

You drank
with intensity
the wild and wayward colours
I tossed and blended and swirled and streamed
across the hungry sky.

You hands reached for mine
and we were each other’s anchors.

Your feet revved my heartbeats
to untamed heights of delight.

Your soul danced with mine,
as one, under the sun and the moon
of our piercing-blue day and night forever-skies.

Though you would deny your kindness
I know what you did
in our last days
for me
and I thank you.

Go well, my manfriend
with my unbounded blessings.
