Treasure Island

Raj Arumugam

I love to sleep (adults only)

I love to sleep
24-hours a day
and for the rest
of the night too

But mum screams:
Wake up,
dreamy bones -
and do something!

And so I wake up
and promptly
go back to sleep
as that way
I honor mum’s words.

Dad breathes
words of inspiration:
Get up,
lazy bones -
and achieve wonders!

And so I wake up
and stay awake
the duration of a long yawn
and that way
the dreams of my father
are fulfilled.

Big Blonde Lulu
from next door sighs:
I wish you’ll
get up,
you useless fella;
O get up
you sleepy head -
and get to know me.

But I continue to sleep
in spite of her pleas
and I dream of
Big Blonde Lulu
and boy, oh boy,
you can bet your last dollar
I get to know
Sexy Lulu
in my dreams
in more than one way!

Oh, I just love to sleep
24-hours a day
and for the rest
of the night too

AT last she comes, O never more
