I Love You Too Poem by Nisho Olme

I Love You Too

I prayed to God to help me,
My tears the final prayer,
The shining beads of despair
Stealing bits of my soul as they fell.
And in my sorrowed faithfulness
He smiled on me once more,
Singing songs of love and hope
While his angel held my hand.
The angel broke my heart in half,
Then gave me one to hold,
And in my soul a coldness grew,
So I questioned what I felt.
Then she exclaimed “Lets play a game”
“You can get back this half if you win”
“But first you must live without sorrow”
“And forget what I’ve taken away.”
I gritted my teeth and I smiled,
Thinking “This angel is must figure I’m soft”
And I reassured the angel I’d do it,
In my ignorance, seeing no doubt.
But then I was struck by the loss,
Feeling empty and lost in myself,
I was savaged by smiles and laughter,
Cringing deeply at everyone’s joy.
Stumbling through doorways of giggles,
I was choked by the stench of their glee,
But before I could pass out in failure,
My angel had to leave.
She told me I would play this game,
Until it made me whole,
But she would stand with me in guidance,
And slowly fill the void.
So I let go of her beautiful hand,
And left her with the words “I love you”
Expecting a “Bye” I was left to my tears,
When she said to me “I love you too…”
