I'M Always Here Poem by A.J. Enigma

I'M Always Here

Breathe in, breathe out.

I’m always here.

Shed your tears, tell me your fears.

I’m always here.

Stay awhile and laugh, I’ll lift the weight of the world off you.

I’m always here.

Be my best friend, and I’ll be yours.

I’m always here.

Give me your love, then take it all back.

I’m always here.

I’m not what you want, this distance is killing you. Move on with your life.

I’m always here.

Miss me sometimes, wonder what it’d be like.

I’m always here.

Come again and find me one day, to talk like old times.

I’m always here, my dear.

Always here.

Until I’m not.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
As a person with social anxiety disorder, many of my closest relationships have been long distance ones that usually begin as a strong friendship and blossom into a full on long distance relationship with very real feelings of love. Unfortunately because of distance, and other hard to resolve issues inherent with these kinds of relationships, they seldom work out and more than a couple times I've been 'let go' by close friends of many years turned lovers who simply wanted to move on with their lives, and so they did.

The person being left behind in this situation is usually still in love though, and probably compelled to still 'be there' for their former love interest/friend. I've had those feelings myself.

This poem is written from the perspective of someone who has been let go from a relationship but is still in love, and still feels it's a duty to always be there for that one person, even when it hurts, always waiting for the possibility that things can be as good as they once were. A fool's way of thinking perhaps, but love will do that to the best of us at times.
