I Offered You A Circle Poem by Didier Sixte Kahungu

I Offered You A Circle

I offered you a circle

In no way does it hold the shine of your smile
It embodies not the love I have for you
Not once should this gold be valued equal to the thoughts of you
No Carat of this diamond embellishes my life like your presence does

No scale, be it of man or of heaven can in its measurement find gold,
Silver or diamond to weigh close to your “yes” to me

If in this ring be found a shape, I pray it be a circle
Which knows no end, no beginning and halts not.

I offered you a circle
Not a square that knows corners
Not a triangle that holds ups and downs
Even though in life be found those towns
Still I offered you a circle

It says not halt!
It forgets not to start

I offered you a circle
Not the shiny paving of heaven that vanish at noon
My circle is round, complete
It is not rectangular to alter

I offered you a circle
One, to cover all five
One, to last your whole life
One, for every sun at noon
One, for every rollercoaster
My One and only roster
One for every doom
None for any split
One for every stitch
And one for your every itch

Will you marry me?
